Rustic Diamonds
The category we named in 1998. Heavily included, deeply colored, opaque in places- greys, reds, greens, browns, and the muddled shades between. Diamonds the trade had written off as unsellable until designers saw what they actually were. Inclusions dense enough to give a stone texture you can read across the table.
The Rose Cut
Named for the way its facets open from a central point. Domed above, flat below, no pavilion and no culet. Cut since the sixteenth century and never about brilliance- it glows rather than flashes. The flat base gives it a broad face for its weight, and the shallow depth lets you see into the stone rather than off it.
